Radiation oncology, also known as radiation therapy, is one of the fastest growing areas of cancer treatment. Advances are being
made daily, with nearly two-thirds of all cancer patients receiving radiation. The history of radiation oncology began in the
late 1800’s with equipment and technology that was far removed from today’s pinpoint accuracy.
At The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, our radiation oncology department is staffed with highly trained professionals,
including Director of Radiation Oncology, Peter LaNasa, M.D. Each patient’s case is carefully
evaluated with all aspects explained to the patient before recommending radiation options.
Types of radiation treatment offered:
External Beam Radiation Therapy With IMRT is used for a wide variety of cancers and is available at our
locations in Fort Worth and at Huguley Hospital in Burleson. Both locations offer the most advanced technology available,
intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). More…
MammoSite Therapy, a new form of treatment for early stage breast cancer, consisting of 5 days of radiation
vs. the traditional 35 days, makes it more convenient for patients to receive radiation therapy after surgery, keeps cancer
from returning, and provides good cosmetic results. The treatment has been widely available since 2002.
